Part 5~Final

Happy birthday to you. Happy birthday to you. Happy birthday dear Onii-chan. Happy birthday to you!”

Both Zen and Hiyori sang uncoordinated and out of tune as Hiyori carried out a glowing birthday cake to Takafumi, who sat at the head of the dining table. A warm smile grew across his face as he gazed upon the homemade cake with a single slice missing from it—a piece he had stolen the night prior.

Hiyori: “Don’t forget to make a wish when you blow out the candles, Onii-chan.”

Takafumi sucked in a weak breath, blowing out the few dripping wax candles.

Zen: “We would’ve added 29, but I don’t think the cake would’ve been able to handle it.”

Takafumi: “You’re the oldest one here, old man.”

Zen snickered, and as soon as Hiyori had left the room to cut the cake, Yokozawa glared at him, dishing out an elbow to the gut.

Zen: “Oof!”

Zen bowed over, clutching his stomach as he let out a groan of pain.

Hiyori: “Are you okay, Papa?”

Hiyori called out from within the kitchen.

Zen: “Y-yeah, I’m…fine.”

Takafumi grabbed the man by the collar, pulling him down close and whispering cautiously into his ear.

Takafumi: “We can’t let Hiyori eat any of that cake!”

Zen pulled back, confused.

Zen: “What do you mean?”

Takafumi: “Last night when I tried a piece…She…I think she mistook the sugar for salt and…”

Zen’s eyes widened, realizing what Takafumi was trying to say.

Takafumi: “If she finds out, it’ll break her heart!”

He released Zen’s shirt just as the young girl entered through the doorway with three plates in her hands. Zen looked at Takafumi nervously, taking a seat between him and Hiyori as he looked down upon what had appeared to of been a mouth-watering cake.

Hiyori: “Dig in! I hope it tastes good!”

From beneath the table, Takafumi kicked Zen, making the man jump. Zen hissed, looking over at Takafumi who mouthed the words ‘do something!’.” Zen panicked, and thoughts began running a million miles an hour through his head as he tried to think of a plan. His eyes caught the site of the colourful napkins sitting by the corner of the table, and suddenly an idea popped into his head. As Hiyori dived into her cake with a spoon, Zen’s arm shot across the table, bumping her and hitting her piece of cake off and onto the floor.

Hiyori: “Oh no!”

Zen“I’m so sorry Hiyori!”

He jumped up from his chair, scooping the cake up off the floor as much as he could. Hiyori sighed, about to slide off her chair to help her father clean up.

Hiyori: “It’s okay. Here, let me do it.”

Zen: “No-no-no! It’s okay. I’ll go grab a cloth and bring you out a new piece while I’m at it.”

She wriggled back onto her chair, confused but accepting her father’s proposition. Zen raced into the kitchen, dumping the paper plate and deformed cake into the bin before taking a quick breather. He looked over at the rest of cake, cringing as he approached it.

Zen: I truly am sorry Hiyori…

“CRAP!”

Both Takafumi and Hiyori sprung up from their seats and flew into the kitchen to find Zen on his knees beside an upside down cake, splattered across the kitchen floor.

Hiyori: “Are you okay Papa?!”

Zen turned to face Hiyori, his eyes meeting Takafumi’s for a split second before looking into his daughters.

Zen: “Yeah, I’m fine…But the cake isn’t. I’m sorry sweetie.”

Takafumi: “What happened?”

Zen: “As I went to grab a cloth, I tripped and ended up pushing the cake off the bench.”

Hiyori sighed, looking down at the frosty mess.

Hiyori: “It’s okay. At least you didn’t get hurt.”

She carefully knelt down beside her father, wrapping her arms around him as his heart beat with guilt.

Hiyori: “I’ll clean this up while you and Onii-chan eat your cake.”

Zen: “A-are you sure? I’m the one who made the mess after all.”

She smiled warmly at her father, taking the cloth from the man’s hands.

Hiyori: “I’m sure! Now get back in there and eat already!”

She pushed her father up as he climbed back to his feet.

Zen: “Alright, alright! Just shout if you need a hand.”

Hiyori: “I’ll be fine, just go!”

She shooed the two men out of the kitchen, tending to the mess her father had made. Zen dragged his feet into the dining room, looking dejected as he plonked down into the wooden chair, sinking his head into his folded arms.

Zen: “Man, I feel terrible!”

Takafumi squeezed his shoulder, taking a seat beside him.

Takafumi: “I think you did the right thing. One day we’ll tell her and by then she won’t even care. She’ll probably laugh and think you were being silly because of all the lengths you went to just so you wouldn’t hurt her feelings.”

Zen: “Yeah, I guess you’re right…”

He placed his hand over Takafumi’s, smiling up at him with warm hazel eyes.

Hiyori: “All clean!”

Wiping her hands, Hiyori entered back through the door, pouting as she saw the two plates of cake untouched.

Hiyori: “You haven’t even touched your desserts! Is there something wrong with it?”

Zen: “We were just waiting for you!”

The two men simultaneously picked up their plates, shoveling down the salty cake, also mixed with overly sweet butter cream icing and sour strawberries.

Hiyori: “What do you think? Is it okay?!”

They nodded enthusiastically. Their rounded cheeks filled with cake took on the appearance of two chipmunks storing food for the winter. Swallowing hard, they tried their best to hide the disgusted look on their faces.

Takafumi: “D-Delicious!”

Zen: “Best cake I’ve ever had!”

Hiyori beamed with joy, a smile gracing her face from ear to ear as she jumped up and down.

Hiyori: “Really?! What did you like best about it?”

The two men looked at each other.

Takafumi: “The flavours all work really well together.”

Zen: “Yeah and…the strawberries were chopped perfectly. Not too thick and not too thin.”

They swallowed the last spoonful before handing their plates to Hiyori, who slipped back into the kitchen to dispose of them. The men snatched up their glasses of water, chugging them down within a few mouthfuls.

Zen: “I think I’m going to need a beer if I want to get that horrible taste out of my mouth. Do you want one?”

Takafumi nodded as he reached for Hiyori’s glass of water and quickly drank it too. Zen popped into the kitchen and moments later returned with two glass bottles of the bubbly refreshment, closely followed by Hiyori.

Hiyori“Oh wow! It’s already past nine o’clock! I should probably head to bed. Goodnight, Papa. Goodnight, Onii-chan.”

Zen knelt down, allowing Hiyori to peck him on the check and then he returned the kiss. She then skipped to Yokozawa’s side, doing the same and surprising the man.

Hiyori: ’Night, and happy birthday again Onii-chan!”

He smiled warmly at Hiyori, wishing her sweet dreams as she scampered off and into her bedroom. Zen snickered to himself as he watched Takafumi look on after her.

Zen: “Looks like she’s really taken a liking to you.”

Takafumi: “You think?”

Zen: “Are you kidding me? She made you a cake for your birthday! All I got was a store bought cake from the bakery down the road.”

Takafumi chuckled, forgetting all about the salty taste which had burned his taste buds. He took a sip of his beer, flushing out his mouth and sighing in content. Taking a seat beside him, Zen heaved a sigh as he looked through the open doorway and into the kitchen.

Takafumi: “The strawberries were chopped perfectly? Seriously, that’s the best you could do?”

Zen: “Hey, I don’t know any of that fancy cooking language. I was put on the spot and it was the only thing I could come up with!”

After finishing his beer, it was already past 10 P.M. and Takafumi found himself having difficulties keeping himself from yawning every few minutes.

Takafumi: “I should probably head off now.”

Zen: “It’s fine if you want to stay here and crash for the night. I’ll even let you snuggle up to me in bed if you get cold.”

Takafumi narrowed his eyes and glared at Zen who teasingly laughed as he took another sip of his beer.

Takafumi: “I’ll pass, thanks.”

He snapped back.

Zen: “Are you sure? I can easily pull out the spare futon if you want?”

Takafumi: “Nah, its okay. I’ve got stuff at home I need to take into the office tomorrow, so it’s easier if I just head back.”

The two men chatted for a few more minutes, finishing off their beers before heading towards the front door.

Meow

Takafumi looked down to find Sorata at his feet. Her tail flicked high in the air as she rubbed her face against his pants leg. He squatted down, stroking her glossy ebony fur from head to tail and scratching under her chin, smiling as she purred in delight.

Zen: “I think that’s her way of saying ‘happy birthday’.”

Takafumi: “Thanks, Sorata.”

He chuckled as he stood back up.

Takafumi: “Well I’m off. Thanks for this evening. See you tomorrow.”

Zen: “Oh! Wait one second, I’ll be right back!”

Takafumi raised an eyebrow as he pulled on his coat and waited by the front door.

Zen: “Here.”

Zen walked up to him carrying a shimmering golden cardboard bag.

Takafumi: “What’s this?”

Zen: “Your birthday present of course!”

Takafumi accepted the bag, noticing its light weight.

Takafumi: “T-thank you. Seeya.”

He opened the door and suddenly was yanked back as Zen planted a passionate kiss upon his lips before whispering into the man’s ear.

Zen: “Happy Birthday.”

He smirked, releasing Takafumi as he waved and closed his front door on the blushing man.

Takafumi: W-what the hell was that! That idiot mustn’t have his head screwed on properly! What if someone saw?!

Takafumi wiped his lips with the back of his sleeve before descending in the elevator and exiting the building with the golden bag swaying in his hand. Finally, upon reaching his building complex, Takafumi turned the key in his door and entered the small one bedroom apartment. He flicked his shoes off and dumped his coat on the arm of the couch before taking a seat. Sighing as the pain in his aching joints began to subside, he looked down remembering in his hand the present Zen had given him. A small tag hung on the side, which he flipped over to read.

To: The Great Grizzly Bear

Takafumi’s eyes narrowed, unamused.

Happy Birthday and I hope you like your present. Maybe you’ll wear it for me the next opportunity we get.

Love, you’re one and only, Zen.

He shook his head as he played with the sticky tape seal, peeling it off gently until the bag popped open.

Takafumi: What the…

He looked down upon the red and white polka-dotted item, confused as he reached into the bag to pull it out. Carefully unfolding it, his eye’s rounded to find it was an apron.

Takafumi: Why’d he give me a…That bastard!

Takafumi scrunched the apron into a ball, throwing it into the bag which he then tossed to the side. His fists clenched in frustration as he pulled out his phone, determined to find out what kind of things Kirishima had planned, although, he had a pretty good idea already.

Part 4. [LEMON]

Zen: Actually, if it were not for her, I probably wouldn’t be here now. She definitely takes after her mother.”

Takafumi: “I don’t know about that. I’m pretty sure that stubbornness of hers stems from you.”

Simultaneously their grins broke into laughter.

Zen: “I think it’s more of a competition between you and Hiyori.”

Takafumi: “Me?! You’re way more stubborn than I am, so it’s between you and your daughter.”

Zen: “Says the tsundere. If I hadn’t of shown up here, we’d still be in that stupid fight.”

Takafumi: “That’s not true! I did decide to come over and apologize after my shower but then you showed up all of a sudden, beating me to it.”

As Zen’s eyes rounded in surprise, Takafumi’s face glowed scarlet. Realizing what he had just said, he quickly jumped up from the chair and entered further into the kitchen with his back to Zen, avoiding any more embarrassment.

Zen: “Really? You, ‘The Great Grizzly-Bear Tsundere’, who has more pride than a lion, was going to push it to the side just like that?”

Takafumi: “Stop calling me that! A-A man should step up and take responsibility if he’s at fault, so I was going to do exactly that.”

Unaware that Zen had followed him into the kitchen, Takafumi jumped as the man’s long, lean arms wrapped tightly around his chest, pinning his arms to his side.

Takafumi: “What are you doing? Let go!”

He struggled to free his arms, but it was useless. Zen was locked around Takafumi and wasn’t about to let go anytime soon. Takafumi growled.

Takafumi: “Oi, I said let go!”

The older man rested his chin upon his lover’s shoulder, softly speaking into the man’s ear.

Zen: “Do you really think I’m going to let you go after that little confession of yours?”

He licked up the side of Takafumi’s neck, sending a chill down the man’s spine; the hairs on the back of his neck standing up on end.

Zen: “Wow, you must have been in a rush to see me. I can still taste the soap on your skin from where you haven’t washed it off properly.”

Zen inhaled deeply, the scent of the coconut body-wash infiltrating his nose, making his heart race with excitement. Takafumi gasped as the man bit into his neck, sucking and leaving behind a deep purple hicky.

Zen: “If only you tasted as good as you smelt.”

Takafumi: “Then don’t fucking bite me, idiot!”

Takafumi hissed, digging his nails into the man’s arms and ripping them off of him. He gently touched the sensitive area before pulling his hand away in shock.

Takafumi: “D-did you just mark me?!”

Using the microwave door as a mirror, Takafumi turned his head to the side, examining the swollen love bite.

Takafumi: “Bastard! How the fuck am I supposed to cover this up for tomorrow?!”

Zen: “I don’t know. Just wrap a scarf around your neck or something. Actually… I think Hiyori might have some cheap make-up you can use…”

Zen’s lips returned to the bruised area, sucking harder on it. Takafumi dropped his fist onto the man’s head, making him release his suction as he stumbled back into the bench.

Zen: “What was that for?”

Takafumi: “You’re making it worse!”

Zen: “Then I’ll just give you a matching one.”

Takafumi looked around the kitchen, grabbing the nearest thing he could find and pointing it at the approaching man.

Zen: “Oh no, a saucepan! My one and only weakness. Stop fucking around and let me kiss you already.”

He took a step forward, grabbing the saucepan and yanked it, pulling Takafumi along, who tripped and fell into Zen.

Takafumi: “WHOA! Stop it you ba-Mph…!”

Zen’s lips seized Takafumi’s, silencing the grizzly as he delved down, kissing his lover hard. His tongue swept the insides of Takafumi’s mouth, bringing the man to sigh and moan until he dropped the hanging saucepan. Zen smirked as he parted his lips with Takafumi’s, embracing his lover closely.

Zen: “Are my kisses really that good?”

Takafumi’s dreary eyes came back into focus as he pushed against the man’s chest.

Takafumi: “O-of course not! I was just feeling faint because I was in the shower for too long!”

Zen: “Hmm? But you always give into me, your knee’s tremble as though they’re about to buckle and down here…”

Zen grinded his crotch against Takafumi’s, which had already began to grow hard.

Zen: “-Is also responding well.”

Takafumi: “Ngh! S-stop, idiot!”

Zen: “Your body is telling me otherwise.”

He pulled Takafumi in for another kiss, staggering backwards as he manuvered out of the kitchen, through the lounge room, and into the bedroom. Slowly, he laid Takafumi down onto the bed, refusing to break his lips away the whole time. Takafumi gasped, his entire face blushing a deep red as Zen hovered over him. His hand slipped into the man’s pants from behind, massaging the area as Takafumi’s hips shuddered with anticipation.

Takafumi: “W-wait! What about Hiyori?! Isn’t she home alone?”

Zen smiled down from above.

Zen: “Nope. She’s gone to stay to a friend’s place. Sorry but you can’t use that as an excuse this time. Your mine for the next couple hours whether you like it or not.”

Takafumi: “I wasn’t using it as an excuse!”

Zen pecked his lover on his thin lips before sliding further down the bed; his nimble fingers  popping the buttons of the jeans through their holes before slipping Takafumi’s pants from his legs along with his underwear. He gazed upon the quivering cock, taking it in his hands.

Takafumi: “What are you doing? Stop staring at it, you’re creeping me out!”

Zen: “My, my, someone’s enthusiastic this morning!”

Takafumi turned his head away, covering his flushed face.

Takafumi: “If you’re not going to do it then let go already!”

Zen: “Sorry. Well then, itadakimasu.”

In one swoop, Zen engulfed the head of Takafumi’s cock in his mouth. His tongue rolled around the circumference, watching as the man shook in ecstasy.

Zen: “Feeling good?”

Takafumi: “What… kind of question is that?!”

Taking the cock back into his mouth, Zen groaned as Takafumi swung his foot into the man’s side. His teeth grazed the head as he pulled it out, crying out in pain with Takafumi cursing back at the stinging sensation.

Takafumi: “Don’t fucking bite me!”

Zen: “You’re the one who decided to kick me in the kidneys!”

Takafumi: “Well you shouldn’t be saying such unnecessary things!”

Zen hissed, eyes narrowing to meet Takafumi’s.

Zen: “Fine. I thought I’d be gentle but I guess you’re ready to go all the way.”

He pulled down his own pants before pouncing upon Takafumi, holding down the man’s hands as the uke squirmed beneath.

Takafumi: “Stop it you horny pervert! Get off of me!”

Leaning down, Zen planted another energy-draining kiss upon Takafumi’s lips, causing his body to automatically fall limp. Unable to move as Zen leaned up, he spread Takafumi’s legs before lining up his cock and pushing it into his uke. A spark of life shot through Takafumi’s body, eyes widening as he cried out.

Takafumi: “Stop, it hurts! Pull out!”

Zen: “Ah. Just…bear with it.”

Takafumi’s walls tightened around the man’s hot cock, making it impossible for him to penetrate any further.

Zen: “You’re too tight! Loosen up some.”

Takafumi: “W-whose fault is that?!”

Zen grabbed Takafumi’s cock, his hand pumping along as he tried to encourage the man’s body to relax. The younger man groaned as the hand movements grew stronger and faster. His body began to pulsate and give in, releasing Zen’s cock which continued to penetrate him until it reached the hilt.

Zen: “See, that wasn’t so bad now, was it?”

As Takafumi opened his mouth, Zen pulled out, slamming back into his lover’s ass.

Takafumi: “AH!”

Takafumi rolled onto his side, gasping as pain and pleasure surged through his body. Zen’s eyes closed as he bit down on his lip. He exhaled a sigh, feeling the warmth of Takafumi surrounding him.

Zen: “Ahh…you’re so hot.”

Takafumi: “S-stop saying stupid shit.”

He glared at his lover who smirked, sliding his tongue up the man’s leg and baring his fangs.

Zen: “But I know you love my dirty talk.”

Takafumi: “Says who?!”

Again he slowly pulled out.

Zen: “Says your body. Whenever I say stuff like that, your walls tighten around me. Why else do you think I say such things?”

Takafumi: “’Cause you’re a horny pervert!”

Zen’s lips curled, licking them before thrusting into Takafumi.

Zen: “Touché.”

Takafumi cried out as the older man’s cock hit his prostate repeatedly. Their hearts raced within their chests as Zen’s thrusting grew more powerful. They could feel the build-up to their climaxes build, Zen grunting from above as Takafumi groaned below.

Zen: “Ah…shit. Can I come inside?”

Takafumi contracted around Zen’s cock, face as red as a tomato as he growled back.

Takafumi: “I told you to stop saying shit like tha-Ahh!

His eyes widened as the man’s fingers teased the head of his leaking cock. His head pounded and body ached as Zen continued to slam his cock deep within, hitting his prostate again. Without warning, Takafumi spurted his cum onto the bed sheets.

Zen: “I… I’m coming!”

Takafumi: “No, not inside!”

Zen groaned, releasing into Takafumi’s ass. His hands squeezed around the man’s cock and leg before falling to his sides, leaving behind a red hand print against the olive skin. Takafumi’s cock overflowed with cum, the last few drops dripping down as he panted; trying to catch his breath. His eyes slowly drew close from exhaustion just as Zen collapsed onto the bed beside him.

Takafumi: “H-hey…are you okay?”

In a weak voice, he managed a reply before passing out.

Zen: “Never better…”

Part 3.

Hiyori: “Morning, Papa. Did onii-chan come over last night?”

Zen: “Why do you ask?”

Zen scratched his scruffy bed hair as he dragged his feet through the bedroom door and out into the lounge room. His head pounded with a hangover, mouth dry and eyes dreary as he let out a lion’s yawn.

Hiyori: “He left a note on the kitchen table thanking me for the cake and apologizing for coming over late.”

Zen: “Can I see?”

Hiyori handed her father the note. Grabbing a glass of water from the kitchen, Zen read the scratchy writing before scrunching it up and tossing it into the bin.

Hiyori: “What’s wrong, Papa? Did you and onii-chan have a fight?”

Zen: “Hmm…something like that. But don’t worry about it, it’s nothing serious.”

The doting father turnedto smile at Hiyori before glugging down the refreshing glass within a couple of mouthfuls. Hiyori folded her arms and frowned at her father.

Zen: “What’s that look for?”

He tried to hold back his smile, thinking how cute she looked when she was annoyed.

Hiyori: “You need to apologize to onii-chan right away!”

Zen: “Me?!”

Hiyori nodded.

Zen: “But he’s the one who…“

He cut himself off as Hiyori scowled at him. Looking up at her father, she pointed her finger at him.

Hiyori: “Who’s the one who says to me to ‘stop acting childish’ or, ‘two wrongs don’t make a right’?!”

Zen fell deflated, beaten by his own ten-year-old daughter who had just demonstrated a higher level of maturity than him. He looked away and sighed in defeat.

Zen: “I did…”

Hiyori: “Then get changed and go apologize.”

Hiyori grabbed her father’s arm, pulling him out of the kitchen and shoved him back into his bedroom.

Zen: “But what about you? I’d be an irresponsible parent if I left you home alone at such a young age.”

Hiyori: “Stop making excuses. I’ll just go to Yuki’s.”

Zen’s door slammed shut behind him, eyes round in shock. Changing into a new set of clothes, he hissed in frustration, knowing he would have to throw away his pride and apologize to Takafumi.

~Takafumi’s Apartment~

Having awakened several hours ago, Takafumi sat at his small kitchen table, sipping at his bitter black coffee as he read the morning newspaper. The sky was clear; the weather perfect, and he hadn’t received a single call from work. Yet somehow he couldn’t lift his mood as the dark shadow of last night’s fight loomed over him. Every thirty seconds he found himself looking over at his phone, hoping to possibly find a new message, call or email. But each time he found himself bowing his head at the disappointment of the dead screen.

Takafumi: Maybe I should make the first move…?

He frowned at the thought.

Takafumi: Wait, why should I? He was the one who…who should have specified why I had to keep Saturday free!

His head flopped in dejection.

Takafumi: That’s because it was supposed to be a surprise!

He argued with himself.

Takafumi: I’m acting like an idiot. I should just go over and apologize already.

Takafumi gritted his teeth, cursing his pride.

Takafumi: But first I’ll have a shower.

The minute he turned on the hot water, his phone chimed with a new message. The heavy pounding of water hitting the tiles drowned out the tune and it wasn’t until he had stepped out and changed that he noticed the new text message.

Z- I’ll be over in 10.

Takafumi’s head flicked up, the sound of a distant knock echoing throughout the apartment.

Takafumi: Kirishima…?

As he slipped his cell into his pocket, Takafumi slowly approached the door, fixing his creased clothes and wet hair before looking through the eyepiece. Sure enough, it was Zen on the other side, waiting in the halls of the building for Takafumi to answer. Zen knocked again, harder, surprising Takafumi as he jumped back. He gathered himself, clearing his throat before unlatching the lock and turning the handle. Seeing the man’s face brought images of the night before to the forefronts of his memory. He remembered how cold the drunken man had been the night before, refusing to listen to his excuses. He even tried to make him feel guilty by telling him about the cake Hiyori had made just for him. Takafumi’s eyes narrowed, forgetting his resolve to apologize as the same man stood in front of him.

Takafumi: “What are you doing here?”

Zen: “May I come in?”

Without another word, Takafumi turned, walking away from the open door and into the kitchen. Zen followed, closing the door behind him. He could tell by the man’s attitude that he was still pissed at him.

Zen: Here I am, trying to apologize, and I get this? Well two can play at that game.

“Happy Birthday.”

Takafumi laughed bitterly.

Takafumi: “Yeah, some birthday. I get called into a meeting which lasts for hours, and then hadto put up with your drunken-ass-self last night.”

Zen: “Well sorry to disturb your fun evening with Takano. You should have just stayed with him instead of coming to the apartment.”

Takafumi: “The fuck? You asked me to come!”

Zen: “I said ‘do what you want’!”

Takafumi: “And I wanted…”

Catching himself mid-sentence, Takafumi bared his teeth, gritting them together as he diverted his eyes from the man’s across the room. Zen let out a heavy sigh, entering the kitchen where he took a seat at the dining table.

Zen: “Man I suck at this. I came all the way here to apologize and instead I start picking another fight with you.”

Takafumi: Huh?!”

Zen grabbed the man’s hand, yanking him down into the seat beside him, where he continued to hold it as his warm hazel eyes gazed into his lover’s.

Zen: “I’m sorry.”

Takafumi’s cheeks reddened upon hearing Zen’s words. He closed his eyes, brows knitting together as he let out a hefty sigh.

Takafumi: “Idiot, you have nothing to apologize for. I’m the one who forgot about my own birthday. That damn anime is the only thing that’s been on my mind. All I can think about is how I can promote it and how I can help make things run smoother.”

Zen: “You can’t help it. It’s your job after all.”

Takafumi: “That’s my job at work, but when I’m at home I should be prioritizing my thoughts better instead of letting work over run them. I’m…sorry. And I’m sorry for blowing you off to have drinks with Takano.”

Zen: “You shouldn’t have to apologize for hanging out with a friend. I can’t believe I let my jealousy get the best of me again.”

He squeezed Takafumi’s hand, caressing it with his thumb as a warm smile graced his lips.

Zen: “Apology accepted.”

Takafumi pulled his hand away, face red up to his ears as he looked aimlessly out the kitchen window.

Takafumi: “W-what’s with that look?”

Takafumi’s eyes suddenly widened, voice increasing an octave as his head flicked back around to Zen.

Takafumi: “Hiyori! Did she get my note? I left it-“

Zen: “Yeah, she got it.”

Takafumi sighed with relief.

Zen: “Actually, if it wasn’t for her, I probably wouldn’t be here now. She definitely takes after her mother.”

Takafumi: “I don’t know about that. I’m pretty sure that stubbornness of hers stems from you.”

Simultaneously their grins broke into laughter.

Part 2.

Over the next few days, Takafumi spent his nights at his own apartment instead of Kirishima’s. He was drowning in work for the anime and hadn’t had a break, but finally it was Saturday and he would get the time off he so desperately needed…or so he thought. Having just struck nine o’clock, Takafumi refused to leave the comfort of his bed even to go to the bathroom. He lazed about, enjoying the peacefulness of the morning….until it was suddenly cut short as his phone began to ring. He growled, reading the caller ID.

Takafumi: You’ve got to be kidding me!

Takafumi answered, barking into the phone.

Takafumi: “What do you want Henmi?!”

His underling on the other line nervously informed his boss of the situation, requesting that he attend a late afternoon meeting. Takafumi rubbed his sore eyes, sighing as he agreed before hanging up on the man. The hours of the day rolled by quickly, and Takafumi found himself struggling to get ready for work on his day off. Eventually, he left his apartment and arrived at Marukawa twenty minutes before the meeting was scheduled to take place.

Masamune: “Yokozawa.”

Sipping at a can of coffee he grabbed from the vending machine, Takafumi turned his head, raising an eyebrow to find Masamune walking down the hall towards him with his own hot beverage in hand.

Takafumi: “What are you doing here Takano?”

Masamune: “Same thing as you. I can’t believe they decided to call a meeting today of all days.”

He sighed and leaned against the wall beside Takafumi.

Masamune: “I bet you’re pissed, huh? Did you have to cancel any plans?”

Takafumi shrugged.

Takafumi: “Not really.”

The seminar’s room door clicked open as two men stepped out; the producer of the anime, and the mangaka, Ijuuin Kyou. Inviting the Marukawa staff in, Takafumi and Masmaune sighed as they dragged their feet into the room. Takafumi threw back the last mouthful of his bitter coffee before taking a seat.

Finally, after three long agonizing hours, the meeting came to an end.

Takafumi: “What a waste of time. All they did was repeat everything they’ve already told us at the last meeting. Everything else could have waited until Monday!”

Masamune nodded as he sighed in frustration.

Masamune: “Hey, since you’ve got nothing planned, want to grab a drink? My treat.”

Takafumi checked the time on his wrist watch, finding it was still pretty early in the night to pass up the opportunity to catch up with an old friend, especially if he was going to be getting free booze.

Takafumi: “Sure.”

The two men headed across the road to the nearest bar, where they took a corner table and ordered a couple of beers and snacks. Immediately the atmosphere between them was uncomfortable, since neither had really spoken since Takafumi confessed his feelings for Masamune, only to be turned down.

Takafumi: “So…how’s it going with you and…what’s-his-face?”

Masamune: “Fine, thank you.”

Takafumi: “Sorry, I didn’t mean to pry or anything.”

Masamune: “No, it’s fine, really. But I’ve been hearing some rumors myself about you and Kirishima-san.”

Takafumi’s eyes widened.

Takafumi: “O-Oh really? What have you heard?”

Masamune: “Something about how you two have been hanging out a lot at bars and restaurants. And then there’s that picture that was sent around the office of you in a polka dot apron cooking with his daughter.”

His cheeks reddened; unable to be seen in the dim light of the bar, and eyebrows furrowed.

Takafumi: “Delete that image from your memory right now!”

Masamune’s lips curled into a smirk.

Masamune: “Can’t, it’s too funny. I even saved it to my phone.”

Clenching his fists, Takafumi breathed in and out, giving into Masamune’s teasing.

Takafumi: “…We’re just co-workers.”

Masamune: “Uh-huh…”

The mention of Zen’s name made Takafumi suddenly remember his previous arrangements to meet with him that day. He cursed, excusing himself from the table before stepping outside. Realising his phone was still off from the meeting, Takafumi’s eyes rounded to find he had four missed calls from Zen as well as three unread text messages. He quickly flicked through his contacts, dialing Zen’s number straight away.

Zen: “Where are you?!”

Takafumi: “Hello to you too.”

Zen: “I told you to keep today free!”

Takafumi: “I got a call this morning and had to come into the office for a late meeting.”

Zen: “And where are you now?”

Takafumi: “Out. I’m having drinks with a colleague.”

Takafumi was careful not to mention Masamune’s name, knowing how jealous Kirishima could get.

Zen: “Geez! I only get to celebrate this day with you once a year and you’re blowing me off?!”

Takafumi: “Huh?! We see each other every day at work! What’s the big deal?!”

Zen: “Well if you don’t care, then fine, do what you want. Bye.”

Without another word, Zen hung up. Snapping his phone shut, the irritated Takafumi returned to the table just as their drinks had arrived. Wanting to forget their conversation, he grabbed the chilled beer, downing it fast. Masamune watched on, taking a swig of his own.

Masamune: “By the way, Happy Birthday.”

Takafumi looked at him in confusion.

Takafumi: “What?”

Masamune: “I said, ‘Happy Birthday’, dumb ass.”

Masamune laughed as Takafumi blinked stupidly, checking his wrist watch for the date.

Masamune: “You seriously forgot your own birthday? Why else would I be paying for your drinks?”

Takafumi: “Ah…Fuck.”

Holding his stomach, Masamune laughed even harder. It then came to him why Zen had wanted him to keep the day free. It’d be the first time they’d celebrate his birthday together and he wanted to be with him. He knew he couldn’t help that he had a meeting to attend to, but the thought of blowing him off to have drinks with the guy he’d previous had feelings for made Takafumi feel guilty to the pits of his stomach. He downed the rest his glass, sitting it on the table before rising from his seat.

Masamune: “Where’re you going?”

Takafumi: “I forgot, I have something important to do. Thanks for the drink.”

Takafumi hurried out of the bar, building up a jog to the train station. He pulled his phone from his pocket, calling Zen’s number, but there was no answer. The call went straight to voice mail making Takafumi curse into the device as he snapping it shut. Legs bouncing nervously, he caught the next train and jogged the rest of the way to Zen’s apartment.

Takafumi: The lights are off?

His pace quickened as he ran through the building entrance doors, skipping the lift as he hurriedly climbed the stairs to the fire escape. His heart pounded in his chest furiously, exhausted and sweating as he made it to the apartment. About to knock, he suddenly noticed the time on his watch, withdrawing his hand.

Takafumi: Hiyori might be asleep…

Takafumi took out his spare key Zen had gotten cut for him and unlocked the door. The door creaked open, hall pitch black as he’d seen from the window. He turned the corner into the lounge room, jumping upon spotting the silhouette of a man against the cream coloured wall.

Takafumi: “Shit! Don’t scare me like that!”

Zen: “What’re you doing here?”

Zen’s hostile tone caught Takafumi off-guard for a moment. He opened his mouth to reply when Zen beat him to it.

Zen: “Cake’s in the fridge.”

Takafumi: “What?”

Zen: “Hiyori baked you a cake, but it got too late so she had to go to bed.”

Stomach churning with guilt, Takafumi wiped the sweat from his brow with his sleeve.

Takafumi: “Look, I got called into a meeting this afternoon and didn’t get out until seven.”

Zen’s eyes narrowed.

Zen: “It’s past nine o’clock. What were you doing before now?”

Takafumi pinched the bridge of his nose.

Takafumi: “I told you, I went out for drinks with a colleague.”

Zen: “Was it Takano?”

Takafumi’s temper snapped; the lack of sleep and alcohol running through his system getting the better of him.

Takafumi: “And if it was?”

Zen took in a deep breath, swaying as he stood up from the couch with an almost beer bottle in his hand.

Zen: “I hope you had fun…I’m going to bed.”

He staggered into his room, slamming the door behind him. Takafumi grimaced and bit the inside of his cheek.

Takafumi: That drunken idiot. He didn’t listen to a word I said I bet. And what am I going to do about Hiyori. She went to all that effort to make me a cake…

Takafumi wrote a note of apology and left it on the kitchen bench for Hiyori to find before swiping a slice of cake from the fridge and heading home.

[Yokozawa Takafumi x Kirishima Zen]

Part 1.

Takafumi: “That concludes our meeting for today. Thank you for your hard work everyone!”

Takafumi rubbed his temples as he exited the room, carrying a bundle of papers underneath his arm. With the recent announcement that the popular manga ‘Za Kaan’ would be receiving an anime series, the Marukawa Shouten team was under an immense amount pressure.

Takafumi: I really can’t wait until this is all over.

He sighed as he sat down at his desk. Rubbing his eyes, Takafumi jumped in his seat as a hand softly landed on his shoulder.

Zen: “Whoa! It’s just me.”

Zen held his hands up in surrender.

Takafumi: “Sorry. I’ve been so busy with this damn anime that I can’t concentrate on anything else. Wait, what’re you doing here? This isn’t your department.”

Zen: “I noticed how stressed you were in the meetings, so I thought I’d come and check on you.”

Takafumi spun around in his chair.

Takafumi: “Thanks, but if people see us talking, it’s going to sprout rumours of how well we get along.”

Zen: “Don’t be so paranoid. We can be friends in the office. Even if—”

He leaned down next to Takafumi and whispered in his ear.

Zen: “—we’re also lovers.”

Takafumi’s eyes rounded as his face turned red. His ears had been violated by the cool, sweet talking of Zen, who had vanished as quickly as he had appeared, leaving Takafumi’s thoughts in a mess. A knock at the door caught him off guard.

Takafumi: “What?!”

His co-worker poked his head in through the door, voice quivering.

Henmi: “U-Um…I-I’ve got the sheets you wanted, Yokozawa-san.”

Takafumi: “Oh, it’s just you Henmi. I thought you were someone else.”

Henmi passed the papers to Takafumi before fleeing from his office. As the day dragged on, Takafumi found himself overwhelmed by his work. No matter how much he did, there was always more waiting on the side. The businessman looked down at his watch and sighed.

Takafumi: I better call Kirishima and tell him I won’t be over for dinner tonight. I bet he’s still waiting at the station for me.

Pulling his phone from his pocket, Takafumi dialled Zen’s number. Within a few rings, he picked up.

Zen: “Yokozawa, I’m glad you called. I’ve got a problem.”

Takafumi:
“So do I. I’m not going to be finished here until late, so I won’t be having dinner with you.”

Zen: “Oh…Are you sure?”

Takafumi: “Yeah. I’ll just head home and grab something on the way.”

Zen sighed into the phone.

Zen: “I understand.”

Takafumi: “I’ll see you tomo—”

Zen: “Wait! What about my problem?”

Takafumi: “What about it?”

Zen: “I’m at the bakery and I don’t know whether to get Hiyori cinnamon buns or macaroons. What do you think?”

Takafumi pinched the bridge of his nose.

Takafumi: “You’re an idiot. Hiyori doesn’t like cinnamon.”

Zen: “Really? Macaroons it is!”

Takafumi: “Is that all?”

Zen: “No, one more thing. Do you have anything planned for Saturday?”

Takafumi: “Why?”

Takafumi raised an eyebrow. Usually he spent Saturdays over at Zen’s house, having a few drinks. Why would he ask?

Zen: “No reason.”

Takafumi: “Wait, what do you—”

Zen: “Sorry, gotta go. Bye!”

Zen hung up, leaving Takafumi completely bewildered. He shook his head and decided he would ask later. Right now, work was more important and there was no time to let his mind wonder. His computer chimed with a new email and straightaway his attention shifted to it.

                                                                                                                                                                                             ~Kirishima’s House~

Zen: “Hiyori, I’m home!”

Zen slipped his shoes off at the genkan and hung his coat upas Hiyori ran to greet him with a warm smile.

Hiyori: “Welcome home Papa!”

They followed the usual routine, asking each other how their day at work and school went, before Zen handed Hiyori the bag of sweets he’d bought for her.

Hiyori: “Thank you Papa. What did onii-san say? Is he coming over on Saturday?”

Zen nodded as he headed into the kitchen and opened up the fridge, fishing out a can of beer.

Zen: “Remember, it’s a surprise, Hiyori. So you have to keep it a secret.”

He winked at his daughter who, in turn, snickered to herself as she placed a finger over her lips.

Hiyori: “I know.”

Zen opened his beer and took a sip, disappointed he couldn’t enjoy it with in the company of Takafumi.

Hiyori: “What kind of cake do you think onii-chan would like, Papa? Vanilla, chocolate, strawberry…? Maybe I should make a sponge cake with strawberries in-between the layers?!”

Zen: “I’m sure he’ll like anything you make for him.”

JR~The Story of Kamijou Hiroki~One-shot

The Story of Kamijou Hiroki One-shot:

It felt like a blissful dream until he called out that name.

“T-Takahiro.”

Then reality struck like a flash of lightening through my heart, burning it in an instant.

Standing up from the wooden desk, I looked over my shoulder, and there he was fast asleep. Usami Akihiko. As per usual, I had to shake him awake, but the sudden seize of my hand within his cold grasp took me by surprise. His head flicked up in response as his purple dreary eyes looked up at me in puzzlement.

Akihiko: “Oh… It’s *yawn* you, Hiroki.”

Hiroki: “Class is over.”

Akihiko looked around the empty room to find that we were alone. The room was silent with nothing but the ticking of the wall clock echoing throughout, and the diminishing sound of our peer’s footsteps as the trudged down the flights of stairs to the freedom of the school gates.

Akihiko: “So it is. Are you still coming over?”

Hiroki: “Yeah.”

As we left campus the wind whirled past us, bringing with it the sweet scent of April’s blooming Cherry Blossoms, which lined the foot path that led to Akihiko’s apartment.

Hiroki: “What are your plans after graduation?”

Akihiko: “What do you mean?”

Hiroki: “With our final exams approaching, shouldn’t you be thinking about a career?”

Akihiko shrugged carelessly, looking on down the path.

Hiroki: “What about the offer you received to work at Marukawa Shoten?”

Akihiko: “I’ve only ever written for myself. Being an author…I don’t know if people would want to read my work.”

Hiroki: “I would!”

He turned to me and I couldn’t help but stutter, taken aback by the beauty of his lilac eyes which shimmered in surprise.

Akihiko: “Really?”

Hiroki: “O-Of course.”

That smile. Every time I saw it, I felt a desirable warmth flow within me.

Akihiko: “What about you then? Are you still planning on becoming a literature teacher?”

Hiroki: “I don’t know. I might not be cut-out to be a teacher.”

He suddenly stopped, and as I turned to him, I found him glaring at me with knitted brows.

Akihiko: “Hiroki, has anyone ever told you, you lack self-confidence?”

Hiroki: “What?”

Akihiko: “You’ve said it yourself how much you love literature. As far as I’m concerned, that alone would make you worthy of being a teacher.”

Hiroki: “R-Really?”

Akihiko: “You’ll be fine.”

My heart became overwhelmed, pounding heavily in my chest as my eyes widened, and for a moment, it felt like they were about to overflow with tears. Was what I was hearing really coming from Akihiko’s lips? He had never encouraged me like that before. My pace weakened as I fell behind him, finding myself now walking in his steps. The harsh wind had begun whipping my face, but I was too immersed in the smell of Akihiko’s musky odour overwhelming and taking over my body. I found my eyes drawing weary, and my breathing becoming slower and deeper as I tried to draw in as much of his rich scent as possible. Controlled by the will of my heart, my mouth suddenly moved on its own accord.

Hiroki: “Akihiko… I love—

I quickly caught my blunder.

Hiroki: “…that book you gave me last week. It was very good.”

Akihiko: “I agree. The author is very inspirational.

Hiroki: “If you have any more novels by Ayase-sensei, can I borrow them?”

Akihiko: “Sure.”

I sighed with relief, inwardly cursing my carelessness. I’d almost confessed!

Akihiko: “…Hiroki.”

Hiroki: “Yes…?”

Akihiko paused for a moment, his back still turned to me as we continued down the footpath, scattered with pink blossoms. The easterly whispered to us as it whirled past for a moment before dying down and carrying the silence with it.

Akihiko: “…Nothing.”

I remained quiet as I looked back down, following the path he had made of trampled flowers whose perfume leaked.

Entering the cramped, single bedroom apartment of his, we set our things down in his room, sprawling out across the patterned floor our self-study homework for the evening.  Akihiko and I almost always studied together and
before I knew it, within a few hours the sky outside had already begun to dim and glow a luminous orange. I looked back down, attempting another equation but looking up from my book to stretch my neck, I was surprised to find it was suddenly pitch black. I looked over my shoulder for the second time that day to find Akihiko again dozing fast asleep.

Hiroki: I wonder how long he’s been out for.

I remember thinking to myself.

As I approached the bedside to awake him, the thought of being alone in Akihiko’s room as he slept crowded my judgment. Inhaling deeply I looked down upon him; his lips were just slightly parted and his face looked peaceful. His eye lids would every now and again flutter, and I wondered to myself what kind of vivid thoughts he might be dreaming.

Maybe it was his scent which had captivated me, or the bold and encouraging words that he’d spoken to me which played on my mind all of that evening; but at that moment, I had never wanted to seize those lips of his with my own so badly. I leaned down ever so close, our lips inches apart when I suddenly drew back and retreated for my bag. I had resolved to leave before I made any regrettable move, but when those same lips softly called my name, my feet became lead and I found it impossible to take that leading step out the door.

Akihiko: “-Hiro…” [Takahiro.]
My head flicked around in disbelief,* and this time I was able to catch the movement of his lips speak my name.

Akihiko: “-Hiro…ki …” [Takahiro suki desu. (Meaning I love you)]

My resolve had crumbled as I flew to his side and leaned down, placing my lips upon his. As our mouths melded together, Akihiko began to stir. I was sure he had awoken to the prince-like kiss I’d subtly placed upon his lips, but he didn’t resist at all. I swiftly pulled away in reaction but froze as I felt his large, cold hand glide through my hair, reaching around the back of my head and bringing our lips together once again. I could feel his hot breath flow into my mouth and his tongue explore within. The sudden clash of our tongues released a sweet flavour, and I couldn’t help but indulge into it as subtle moans hummed to the rhythm of our lips. Losing myself in the kiss, the bed creaked as I began to climb upon it and over Akihiko. My heart pounded loudly in my ears as Akihiko’s eyes snapped open and shoved me away, wiping his mouth with the back of his sleeve.

Akihiko: “Hiroki, what were you doing?”

What was I doing? I had no idea myself. All I knew was that I wanted Akihiko, I yearned for him, and then for the second time that day I opened my mouth, still wrapped in the moment.

Hiroki: “Akihiko, I…I…I love—”

Akihiko held up his hand, stopping me cold.

Akihiko: “Stop! Hiroki, you know I’m in love with Takahiro.”

Takahashi Takahiro…I had never actually met him; only from afar had I seen him walking with Akihiko down the school halls. I had nothing against the guy, he seemed friendly, but I couldn’t understand what drew Akihiko to him. There was nothing special about him. He was a straight-A-student who obeyed the rules and was a part of the student council committee.

In that moment of time though, I was too intoxicated to care. I was drunk on love. My eyes quickly caught the sight of a small bump which had formed within Akihiko’s pants and I saw my window of opportunity reopen. I leaned forward and cupped the bulge with my hand, rubbing my palm back and forth, making Akihiko cringe.

Hiroki: “Then, pretend I’m your precious Takahiro.”

I don’t know what I was thinking at the time, probably something like ‘Maybe if we have sex, Akihiko will fall in love with me and forget about Takahiro.’.

I removed a handkerchief from my pocket and held it in front of Akihiko, who let me tie it around his head, blindfolding him.

From that moment on, I caressed Akihiko like I’d always dreamed, but unlike my fantasies, there was no love from him to me. He didn’t touch me unless absolutely necessary and the pain I felt when he entered me held no warmth but a cold, desolate feeling of loss because it was a crushing blow to my heart. And when we both came, it wasn’t my name he called out…

Hiroki: “Ah! Akihiko…!”

Akihiko: “T-Takahiro!”

It was an unforgettable moment for all the wrong reasons, because I realized our hearts would never be connected…no matter how much I wished otherwise.

Hiroki:
“I’m sorry.”

I climbed off of Akihiko and fled from his apartment, wandering the cold streets of the night. Somehow I made it home to my apartment where I crawled into bed and drowned my sorrows into my pillow.

We both regretted out actions. I more-so than him. Unable to cope with the guilt, I distanced myself from Akihiko. Every day was a constant struggle for me, because almost everything seemed to remind me of him. I began to skip school in order to avoid him, putting my future on the line, however, little did I know, that a bare two weeks after the incident, a typhoon would come crashing into my life by the name of Kusama Nowaki.

~End~

After reading this, I highly recommend reading my Hiroki x Nowaki fanfic cause it basically continues the story n_n

Part 5.

Chiaki exited the bathroom and walked into the kitchen, which was filled with the heavenly smell of Yoshiyuki’s cooking, complimented by the sizzling of what smelt like sausages on the stove top. His mouth began to water and his steps became longer as he rushed towards the kitchen and took a seat at the table.

Chiaki: “Ahh, it smells delicious, Tori! How long until breakfast is ready?”

Yoshiyuki: “Now.”

Yoshiyuki removed the frying pan from the stove and transferred the contents of the pan onto a plate. He set the plate down in front of Chiaki, handing him his chopsticks.

Chiaki: “Itadakimasu!”

Digging into his meal, Chiaki stuffed his mouth full, his cheeks bulging out the sides like a chipmunk.

Yoshiyuki: “Didn’t your mother ever teach you table manners?”

Ignoring Yoshiyuki, Chiaki continued to shovel large amounts of food into his mouth, finishing the meal in record time. Patting his bulging belly, he sighed with satisfaction, letting out a gurgling burp.

Chiaki: “As always, your cooking is the best!”

Yoshiyuki: “That’s good, seeing as you’ll be eating my cooking a lot more often now.”

Chiaki: “What do you mean?”

Yoshiyuki: “I talked to Takano-san yesterday and he agreed to let me be your editor again under strict circumstances. So, I’ve come to the conclusion that we should move-in together.”

Chiaki paused for a moment before his lips curled up into a smile.

Chiaki: “That’s a great idea! If you cook for me every night, I won’t have to buy my meals from the convenience store!”

Yoshiyuki: “I’ll also be able to keep an eye on you to makes sure you don’t fall behind in your work.”

Chiaki: Uh…Maybe this isn’t such a good idea after all…

Yoshiyuki:
“By the way, what happened when the manuscript was due? Why weren’t you answering your phone or the door? Why were you so far behind in your work?”

Chiaki: “Uhh well…after losing you as my editor I became really depressed. Onodera-kun was trying everything to be supportive but…it wasn’t the same. As hard as I tried I couldn’t get any work done and all I could hear was my phone ringing every five minutes. Then there were knocks at my door and I just couldn’t handle the stress, and I eventually passed out and that’s when you found me.”

Yoshiyuki: Chiaki is a nuisance mangaka at the best of times…I feel sorry for Onodera. Maybe I should treat him to lunch tomorrow as an apology.

“You’re going to have to learn to work with other editors. I can’t promise I’ll be working a long side you forever. There might come a time when you’ll just have to accept it.”

Chiaki: “You…you’ll still be by my side though, right?”

Yoshiyuki: “Of course.”

Rising up from his chair, Yoshiyuki pecked Chiaki on the brow and collected their plates. Chiaki’s cheeks grew bright red as he rubbed his forehead with his sleeve.

Chiaki: “Wh-What was that for?!”

Yoshiyuki: “Do I need a reason to kiss my lover?”

Chiaki: I don’t think I’ll ever get use to being called his lover.

Yoshiyuki: “I’m heading off now. There are leftovers in the fridge for later if you get hungry. I’ll call you tomorrow to set up a meeting about your next project.”

Chiaki: “Can’t you go one day without talking about work?”

Yoshiyuki: “No.”

Gathering his coat and briefcase, Yoshiyuki gave Chiaki one final kiss before walking out the door and heading home. Several days passed before Yoshiyuki and Chiaki met up to discuss the new project. After they had finished, Chiaki escorted Yoshiyuki to the door.

Yoshiyuki: “Before I leave, I had an interesting conversation with Onodera yesterday. It seems all the corrections we made on your previous project were exactly the same ones he told you to do.”

Chiaki froze in the doorway and laughed nervously.

Chiaki: “…I guess I missed you so much that I couldn’t think clearly and rejected everything he said by accident.”

Yoshiyuki: “You think I’ll let you get away with it so easily?”

Chiaki: “B-But it’s over now!”

Yoshiyuki: “Do you have the slightest idea of how much trouble you caused?”

Chiaki: “I’m sorry…”

Yoshiyuki sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose.

Yoshiyuki: “If you pull a stunt like that again, I’ll stop cooking for you.”

Yoshiyuki placed his brief case on the floor and approached Chiaki. Thinking he was about to kiss him, Chiaki stood still, clenching his lips and squeezing his eyes shut tight. Instead he pulled Chiaki into his arms, catching his lover off-guard.

Yoshiyuki: “I love you.”

Chiaki’s eyes rounded, shivering in Yoshiyuki’s embrace. His arms wrapped around his lover on their own accord as he clutched onto Yoshiyuki’s shirt and breathed in his musky scent.

Chiaki: “…Me too.”

End…

Part 4.

Yoshiyuki sat by Chiaki, looking through his work as the young man continued to draw. About 20 minutes after hanging up his phone, the doorbell rang.

Chiaki: “Huh? Who’s that?”

Yoshiyuki: “I’ll get it. Continue with your work.”

Yoshiyuki stood up and hesitating at the door, he twisted the handle and pulled it open. A slender younger man with burgundy coloured eyes and short, scruffy light brown hair, wearing a shoulder bag, grinned smugly at him.

Yuu: “I’ve got to say, I was quite surprised to get a call from you of all people.”

Yoshiyuki: “Believe me, you were the last person I wanted to call, but I had no choice.”

Yuu entered the apartment and slipped his shoes off. Kicking them to the side, he pulled his bag over his head and walked past Yoshiyuki who suddenly grabbed his arm and hissed in his ear.

Yoshiyuki: “No funny business, understand?”

Yuu jerked his arm back forcefully, shaking Yoshiyuki off of him.

Yuu: “Why, I don’t know what you mean.”

Yoshiyuki gritted his teeth and clenching his fists he glared at Yuu.

Yuu: “So, what’s the situation?”

Yoshiyuki: “Eleven pages and the deadline’s tomorrow morning at eight o’clock.”

Chiaki heard the slight mumbling of two people talking, unaware of who the second voice belonged to until it grew louder.

Yuu: “A.M?!

Yoshiyuki: “That’s why I called.”

Chiaki: No way! Is that…

“Yuu?!”

Appearing from around the corner, Yuu grinned at Chiaki.

Yuu: “Hey, it’s been a while!”

Chiaki: “W-why are you here?!”

Yuu: “Hatori called and asked me to come and give you a hand. I didn’t think there’d be so much work left to do.”

Chiaki rubbed the back of his neck.

Chiaki: “Ha-ha-ha. I guess I just lost track of time.”

Yuu: “Sounds like you. Well then, we better get to work if we want to get everything finished on time.”

Chiaki: “Right!”

Yuu: “Show me what you need me to do.”

Chiaki led Yuu over to his desk, going over what he’d already done and what he still needed to do. Across the room, Yoshiyuki sat at a separate table watching; keeping a close eye on Yuu. From what he knew, both Chiaki and Yuu hadn’t really seen nor talked to each other since Yuu forced himself on Chiaki.Seeing Yuu lean over Chiaki with their faces inches apart made him feel anxious. He wanted to separate the two immediately, but he knew that he had to resist the urge since Chiaki’s career was on the line. As the clock ticked over into the next day, the three were still busy, rarely taking any breaks unless it was for coffee or a quick snack.

Yoshiyuki: “See, right here is the most important part of the scene, yet you ruin it with a cheap gag.”

Chiaki looked down at the page with furrowed eyebrows as he twiddled an eraser between his fingers.

Yoshiyuki: *sigh* “Don’t you get it?”

Chiaki: “Of course I do!”

His hand dropped to the page, vigorously moving back and forth as the pencil lines began to disappear. Through the silence of the night, the only things heard were the scratching of pencils, and the occasional comment. The darkness soon gave way to light and with two hours to go until the deadline, Chiaki was struggling. His hand and head throbbed more than ever, but he was determined to finish his work.

Chiaki: “Done!”

Yoshiyuki: “Well done!”

Throwing himself out of his chair, Yoshiyuki sighed with relief. Though they were finished, he knew it wasn’t over yet. Glancing down at his watch, he grabbed the finished manuscript and slid it into his briefcase.

Yoshiyuki: “I’m off.”

Chiaki: “Why? Where are you going?”

Yoshiyuki: “Idiot, unlike you, I still have to hand this into the printers before eight.”

Yuu: “I have to go too.

Chiaki: “Uh, well…T-thank you very much for your hard work!”

Yuu: “Pfft! Stop being so formal with me, Chiaki.”

Chiaki: “S-Sorry.”

Yuu: “Later!”

Yoshiyuki followed behind Yuu and headed down the street towards the train station.

Yuu: “Shouldn’t you be thanking me too?”

Gritting his teeth, Yoshiyuki mumbled a few words of gratitude before he shot off down the street.

                                                                                                             ~Marukawa Shoten~

Takafumi: “Takano, is he here yet?”

Masamune: “Not yet.”

Takafumi: “Give it up. If he hasn’t showed up by now, he’s not going to show up at all.”

Masamune: “If he’s not here by the deadline, I’ll handle it.”

As Takafumi opened his mouth to protest, Yoshiyuki walked through the door of the printer’s office, opening his brief case to retrieve the finished piece. Though he looked composed, his breathing was quicker than normal and cheeks, red. He retrieved the finished manuscript from the briefcase and handed it over to Takafumi, bowing.

Yoshiyuki: “I deeply apologise for Yoshikawa’s recent behaviour but as you can see, we managed to finish the manuscript before the deadline.”

Takafumi: “Although that’s true, he wasn’t your artist to follow up on. By rushing to his side, you ultimately neglected your work and own mangakas.”

Yoshiyuki remained bowed, hanging his head low with his hands pinned to his sides.

Masamune: “There’s no point making a fuss about it. What’s done is done. And I guess changing editors wasn’t such a good idea after all.”

Yoshiyuki rose with a puzzled expression.

Yoshiyuki: “Sir?”

Masamune: “I’ll let you return to managing Yoshikawa-san again.”

Yoshiyuki: “Thank you, Takano-san.”

Masamune: “I’ll inform Onodera. Take the rest of the day off, Hatori.”

Yoshiyuki: “I’m fine, I can still—”

Masamune: “Do as I say.”

Yoshiyuki: “…I’ll take my leave then.”

Takafumi: “What do you think you’re doing?”

Masamune: “Taking a gamble.”

Takafumi: “You know you’re risking your career. Is it really worth it for just one editor?”

Masamune: “Have I ever been wrong?”

Back at Chiaki’s apartment, Yoshiyuki dumped his bag by the door and dragged his feet down the hall to the entertainment room. He spotted Chiaki asleep on the couch and sweeping him up into his arms, Yoshiyuki carried him into his bedroom. He laid Chiaki down onto the bed and pulled the blankets over him, undressing himself before sliding in next to his childhood friend. Masamune’s words ran clear through his mind, making it impossible to fall asleep until he could come up with some kind of solution.

Yoshiyuki: I guess that’s the only way it’ll work.

Exhausted and with his head now finally unclouded, Yoshiyuki shortly fell asleep by Chiaki’s side. As Chiaki began to awaken in the late hours of the morning, he tossed about; rolling over to see it was already eleven o’clock, Saturday morning. Still in a daze, he rolled back over to find half his bed stripped as though someone had being laying in it.

Chiaki: Tori? He must have gone home…

Reaching over to the other side of the bed,he could feel the warmth still radiating from the rumpled sheets where Yoshiyuki had rested. The smell of him had soaked into the pillows. Chiaki grabbed one and nuzzled his face into it. It was almost as if Yoshiyuki was still there.

Yoshiyuki: “What are you doing?”

Chiaki’s eyes shot open and looked up to see the shirtless, broad man towering over him; his hair still dripping wet from the shower he had just taken.

Chiaki: “T-Tori!”

Chiaki released the pillow and rolled over, giving his back to Yoshiyuki.

Chiaki: “Nothing! I was doing nothing!”

Yoshiyuki knelt down next to the bed and rolled Chiaki over. He leant forward and kissed his lover softly.

Yoshiyuki: “I’m going home now so you can get some more rest.”

As he stood up to leave, his sleeve was suddenly snagged by Chiaki who was unaware of his own actions himself.

Yoshiyuki: “You want me to stay?”

Chiaki: “Uh…I…”
Yoshiyuki smiled. Lowering his head, Yoshiyuki captured Chiaki’s lips with his own. He slipped his tongue inside Chiaki’s mouth, brushing it against his lover teasingly. Chiaki’s head sank into the pillow as Yoshiyuki deepened the kiss by climbing over him. Startled, Chiaki shoved the older man off of him and wiped the saliva from his mouth.

Chiaki: “T-Tori, wait a second!”

Yoshiyuki sat up, his hands wandering up towards Chiaki’s pants, grabbing hold of the elasticised waist band and tugged them down and over his ass harshly. He clambered back over Chiaki, taking hold of his wavering penis and starting to pump it with his hand.

Chiaki: “T-Tori! Stop!”

Without warning, Yoshiyuki bowed his head and engulfed the whole of Chiaki’s cock in his mouth. Chiaki’s hips jerked forward as he grabbed and tugged on Yoshiyuki’s hair.

Chiaki: “AHH!”

Chiaki’s hands gripped tighter onto his hair every time the man slid his lips further down the shaft, his tongue wrapping around the circumference, lubricating it with his hot, wet saliva.  He could hear Chiaki’s sweet moaning from above, his voice fragmenting and echoing in his ear, making his dick grow harder and revealing it self through his boxer-briefs as it rubbed against the bed.

Chiaki: “T-Tori stop! I’m going to come!”

As Yoshiyuki’s tongue licked up the stem of Chiaki’s cock, white semen spurted from his tip, dripping down underneath between his butt cheeks. Chiaki gasped, his eyes shooting open as Yoshiyuki’s fingers slowly began to penetrate him. Using the cum as a lubricant, Yoshiyuki slid his finger inside his lover’s hole, making Chiaki tense up.

Yoshiyuki: “I’m sorry, does it hurt?”

Chiaki shook his head as he squeezed his eyes shut tight and dug his fingernails into the bed sheets.

Chiaki: “N-no, it just feels…w-weird.”

Yoshiyuki smiled and wriggled his fingers deep within Chiaki, adding another once his lover had loosened up some. Chiaki yelped as Yoshiyuki rolled him over onto his stomach, spreading his butt cheeks and grounding his erection against his hole.

Yoshiyuki: “Chiaki, can I put it in?”

Chiaki’s cheeks flushed scarlet as he shook his head.

Yoshiyuki: “I’ll take that as a yes.”

Leaning back, Yoshiyuki slid his underwear down to his knees and slammed hard into the young man’s body. His arm wrapped around Chiaki’s chest, feeling the contours of his ribs through his skin as his fingers crept up towards his nipples.]

Yoshiyuki: He’s lost weight again.

Chiaki: “Ahh-hah!”

Chiaki gasped as Yoshiyuki trailed a line of kisses down his neck, leaving behind dark strawberry-shaped marks. He cried out as waves of pleasure crashed though his mind, his body shaking.

Chiaki: “T-Tori…the sheets! They’ll get dirty!”

Yoshiyuki: “I’ll wash them for you.”

Chiaki: “N-No! If you keep…Ah! I’m going to cu—AH!”

Grabbing hold of Chiaki’s hips, Yoshiyuki sped up his thrusts, feeling his climax approaching. Chiaki let go of the bed sheets and gripped a hold of the headboard, steadying himself as he jolted back and forth in time with Yoshiyuki’s thrusts, moaning every time the man’s cock hit his prostate.

Chiaki: “T-TORI!”

Chiaki sobbed as his climax rushed through him, causing Yoshiyuki to come inside him. He panted as the older man fell on top of him and kissed him sweetly.

Yoshiyuki: “Looks like you’re going to need a shower.”

Chiaki: “W-whose fault do you think that is?!”

Yoshiyuki: “How about I make it up to you by cooking you breakfast?”

Chiaki’s eyes widened upon hearing the word, ‘breakfast’. Somehow his energy had suddenly been restored as he climbed off the bed and hurried into the bathroom.

Chiaki: “I’ll be as quick as possible!”

Yoshiyuki watched him go with a warm smile.

Yoshiyuki: He’s just like a little puppy sometimes…

Part 3.

Skipping breakfast, Chiaki gathered up his belongings and made his way down to the station. Catching the next train and getting off four stops later, he walked the rest of the 10-minute journey to the office. Already waiting for him by the door was Yoshiyuki, dressed in his usual suit and tie with the added accessory of purple bags shadowing his eyes. Like Chiaki, he too had very little sleep that night and it was showing. Their eyes met for a moment before Chiaki flicked his head off to the side, breaking the contact.

Yoshiyuki: He’s still pissed at me.

“Follow me.”

Yoshiyuki sighed, turning his back to Chiaki as he began to walk down the lobby towards the elevator. Entering the small metal box the two stood at either end and watched as the door slowly drew close, sending them up to the fifth floor. The atmosphere between them was tense, with neither one of them breathing a single word. The door dinged open and the two exited one after another into a room filled with the buzzing of busy workers. Chiaki never had to enter the office before and instead, used Yoshiyuki to communicate between his boss and himself. With his hidden identity as Yoshikawa Chiharu, no one was able to recognize him, making it easy to move about without anyone noticing. Yoshiyuki turned the corner into another room and as Chiaki followed him into it, the fluffy pink aura of the department blinded him. Distracted by the  new environment for a mere moment, he had forgotten he was giving Yoshiyuki the silent treatment, and Chiaki opened his mouth.

Chiaki: “Where are we?”

Yoshiyuki: “This is the ‘Marukawa Emerald Editing Department’.”

In the centre of the room sat several small wooden desks pieced together to make up one large table. Surrounding it sat several editors, working away with cheery grins on their faces. Walking past his co-workers, Yoshiyuki muttered to himself.

Yoshiyuki: “And the cycle begins once again.”

Chiaki: “Huh?”

Yoshiyuki: “Nothing.”

Chiaki waddled behind Yoshiyuki as they passed the workers and made their way down to the end of the room. At the end of the desks sat Yoshiyuki’s boss, Takano Masamune, who looked as laid back as ever with his feet resting upon the tabletop. Yoshiyuki cleared his throat loudly, grabbing Masamune’s attention. Chiaki stood behind Yoshiyuki as he saw the man peering over the hand full of papers he held out in front of himself.

Yoshiyuki: “Yoshikawa Chiharu is here.”

Chiaki bowed, stuttering as he enthusiastically greeted the man that he had only met a few times in his career.

Chiaki: “G-good morning!”

Yoshiyuki: “So have you decided on a replacement yet?”

Chiaki’s grip on his bag tightened, remembering the reason why he was at the office. Masamune looked across his table of editors, calling out to one who sat at the far corner.

Masamune: “Onodera!”

Ritsu looked up from his laptop with his bright emerald eyes. He rose quickly from his chair and hastily made his way over to the group of waiting men.

Masamune: “Yoshikawa Chiharu, I believe you’ve met Onodera Ritsu before at the New Years party. You will now be in his care.”

The two greeted and bowed, exchanging pleasantries and arranging a meeting. Ritsu then excused himself, returning to his desk to continue his work for the day.

Chiaki: “Well then, I should be leaving too. Thank you very much Takano-san, please excuse me.”

Chiaki returned to the elevator, sighing as he slouched back against the cool metal walls and closed his eyes. Before the door could close a large hand appeared, grabbing a hold of it, which made them automatically reopen and allowed him into the lift. Startled, Chiaki opened his eyes, shocked to see Yoshiyuki standing before him. The doors shut closed and Chiaki was now trapped.

Chiaki: “T-tori!”

Again, Chiaki flicked his head to the side, avoiding the man’s piecing gaze.

Yoshiyuki: “Why are you acting like this?”

Chiaki: “Acting like what?”

Yoshiyuki: “Like a child!”

His head flicked back, staring at the man with wide eyes, irritated by his words.

Chiaki: “I’m not!”

Yoshiyuki: “Then stop avoiding me.”

Chiaki: “Don’t I have a right to be upset? You have been my editor for how long? And then all of a sudden you decide to stop!”

The humming of the elevator stopped as the doors to Chiaki’s escape route began to open. Lunging forward Chiaki skipped out of the elevator but before he could get any further Yoshiyuki seized his hand, pulling him to the side.

Yoshiyuki: “I didn’t have a choice!”

Chiaki: “…What?”

Yoshiyuki: “I didn’t want to stop being your editor.”

Chiaki:
 “Then why did you?”

Yoshiyuki: “My boss, Takano-san, said that if you were late again with the manuscript, you’d most likely be sacked from the company! So he made the decision of removing me as your editor and replacing me with someone else in the hopes you’d stop slacking off.”

Feeling embarrassed, Chiaki looked down at the ugly patterned carpet beneath him.

Yoshiyuki: “I didn’t have a say in the matter.”

Chiaki: “-orry.”

Yoshiyuki: “Pardon?”

Looking down, Yoshiyuki could see the redness of Chiaki’s ears. Using his index finger, he lifted Chiaki’s chin, angling his face up towards him. Chiaki looked off to the side, still blushing; he managed to muster up some courage to repeat himself.

Chiaki: “I’m…sorry.”

Yoshiyuki smiled, dropping Chiaki’s chin. His hand rose, landing on Chiaki’s shoulder.

Yoshiyuki: “Work hard.”

Surprised by his words, Chiaki looked up to see Yoshiyuki’s back as the man re-entered the elevator and the doors shut behind him. Chiaki spun around, shuffling out of the building and into the crowded streets of Tokyo.

Chiaki: That’s right. Just because Tori isn’t my editor, doesn’t mean I shouldn’t work my best!

                                             ~Approximately 3 Weeks Later~

Yoshiyuki: Since Chiaki and I stopped working together; we’ve actually been able to talk more about trivial things and less about work. Maybe this will be better for our relationship.

With the thought still in his head, Yoshiyuki walked into the Emerald Editing Department, where things were far from calm.

Masamune: “ONODERA, HAVE YOU GOTTEN IN CONTACT WITH HER YET!?”

Ritsu: “Ahh he-she’s not answering!”

Masamune:
 “THEN TRY AGAIN!”

Ritsu: “O-okay!”

Drawing towards the end of the cycle, the office was as rowdy as ever. Yoshiyuki sighed, taking a seat near the front of the table. He had grown near immune to the bellowing of his bosses’ voice in his ears and over time, had learnt to block it out completely.

Masamune: “ONODERA!?”

Ritsu: “No answer.”

Masamune: “Shit…Hatori-san!”

Yoshiyuki: “Hmm?”

Masamune: “Have you talked to Yoshikawa Chiharu recently?”

Yoshiyuki: Chiaki?

“No not recently. Why? What’s the problem?”

Masamune: “His manuscript is due tomorrow and we haven’t been able to contact him for the past 4 days now.”

Yoshiyuki: Shit! Chiaki, what do you think you’re doing!? At this rate, you’re going to be sacked!

“Onodera, have you gone to his apartment?”

Ritsu: “Yes and no one answered.”

Yoshiyuki sprung up from his chair, grabbing his brief case and rushing out of the office.

Ritsu: “Hatori-san!? Where are you…going?”

Before Ritsu could finish, Yoshiyuki had already disappeared around the corner.

Yoshiyuki: What is that idiot thinking!?

Exiting Marukawa, Yoshiyuki’s hand shot into the air, hailing an oncoming taxi. As the taxi pulled up to the curb, he jumped into the cab and directed the driver to the young mangaka’s apartment. Arriving across the road from the building, Yoshiyuki exchanged notes with the driver before jumping out of the vehicle and onto the footpath. The cool breeze swept transverse his breath as he jogged across the road. Entering the building, he jogged up the staircase and down the hall until he was standing outside the mangaka’s door. His knuckles banged on the door in a rhythmic sequence, calling to the mangaka within.

Yoshiyuki: “HEY! CHIAKI! OPEN UP!”

Again, he banged on the door, but there was no response from within.

Yoshiyuki: Shit…What if he’s actually sick.

“CHIAKI!? ARE YOU THERE?”

Yoshiyuki pulled out a silver metal key from his pocket, sliding it into the fitted keyhole and turning it 180 degrees to the right. The door clicked and he burst into the apartment. Upon entering, he noticed Chiaki in his chair passed out with his head on the desk. Yoshiyuki flew to his side, shaking the boy as he called his name.

Yoshiyuki: “Chiaki? Hey, Chiaki! Wake up!”

The boy tossed, slowly opening his eyes, which presented a blurred vision of Yoshiyuki.

Chiaki: “To-ri…?”

Using the balls of his hand, Chiaki rubbed his eyes, sharpening his vision until it became clear.

Chiaki: “Tori!

Yoshiyuki: “Are you okay!? Are you ill?”

Yoshiyuki placed his hand upon Chiaki’s head; feeling to see if he had a fever.

Chiaki: “T-t-toorii!”

Chiaki clutched onto the man’s suit, shaking as he repeatedly called his name in a slurred and stuttering manner.

Yoshiyuki: “Chiaki?”

As Chiaki’s grip grew tighter, he pulled him in closer. Yoshiyuki could feel wet warmth soak through his shirt and rub against his skin. Looking down he could see the boy sobbing into his chest.

Chiaki: “Tori, I’m sorry! *sniff* I can’t do it! *sniff* I can’t finish it!”

Yoshiyuki let out a deep and heavy sigh, stroking the boy’s hair until he began to calm down.

Chiaki: *sniff* “What…” *sniff* “Am I going to do?” *sniff*

Yoshiyuki:
“How many pages do you have left?”

Chiaki: “Eleven.” *sniff*

Yoshiyuki took a deep breath in, closing his eyes for a few moments.

Chiaki: “Tori?”

Yoshiyuki: “First things first, we need to let everyone know you’re okay.”

Pulling his phone out of his pants pocket, Yoshiyuki dialed the number to the office and waited. As the ringing cut out, a familiar voice on the other end answered.

Ritsu: “HATORI!”

On the other end answered a panicking, anxious Ritsu who was just about at his limit.

Yoshiyuki: “I’ve been able to get in contact with Yoshikawa Chiharu and I’d like to report he is fine.”

Through the phone, he could hear Ritsu sigh with relief and his voice drop in pitch to a less concerned tone.

Yoshiyuki: “Please put me through to Takano-san.”

Ritsu: “Uhh, sure.”

As Yoshiyuki waited for the line to be switched over he looked down at the sniffling Chiaki, still clinging onto him at his waist.

Masamune: “Hatori?”

Yoshiyuki: “Takano-san! If you’ll ju-”

Masamune: “Last chance. If you don’t get it right this time, it’s over. 8 o’clock, got it?”

Yoshiyuki’s eyes narrowed, pausing for a moment.

Yoshiyuki: “Yes sir! Thank you.”

As the line went dead Yoshiyuki lowered his mobile from his ear.

Chiaki: “W-what are we going to do?”

Yoshiyuki: “You’re going to get back to work and I’m going to make a call.”

Chiaki looked up at the man with a puzzled expression, slowly releasing his grip as he stepped back.

Yoshiyuki: “Don’t just stand there! Get back to work!”

Chiaki: “Right! …T-tori.”

Yoshiyuki: “What is it?”

Chiaki: “Thank you.”

Yoshiyuki: “Idiot, don’t be thanking me just yet.”

If this doesn’t work out, then we’ll both be in a tight position

Taking a seat at his desk, Chiaki picked up his pencil; twirling it between his fingers as he stared down at the blank sheets of paper before him. His eyes wondered about the room until they caught the movement of Yoshiyuki pacing up and down with his phone in his hand.

Chiaki: I wonder what Tori’s doing. Ahh! No good! I need to concentrate and get this done! I heard Takano-san say that if we couldn’t get this done I’d be finished!! I have to work faster than I’ve ever worked before, although, eleven pages…I don’t know if that’s even possible.

Yoshiyuki: I can’t believe I’m doing this.

Holding his cell in the palm of his hand, Yoshiyuki sighed, scrolling through his long list of contacts until reaching the one he wanted. Tapping the screen, the contact information flashed before his eyes and with another touch, he dialed the number. He brought the phone to his ear as he continued to pace up and down Chiaki’s apartment until the man answered.

“Hello?”

Yoshiyuki: “It’s me…”

“…What do you want?”

Part 2.

Masamune: “And don’t forget to tell him about the editor change.”

Yoshiyuki: “…Yes.”

He turned back around, pausing for a moment before he continued to walk down the hall and enter the elevator. Upon Chiaki’s request to make him dinner, Yoshiyuki stopped by a local grocery store on his way to the apartment. He decided to pick up some meat and fresh ingredients because knowing Chiaki; he wouldn’t have anything in his refrigerator. Using the set of keys he had specially made for the artist’s apartment, Yoshiyuki let himself in, calling down the hall as he secured the door close.

Yoshiyuki: “Chiaki! You’d better be close to finishing! Chiaki?”

Turning the corner into the main room, Yoshiyuki found Chiaki slouched back in an upright-seated position, dozing on his sofa with a pencil resting in a loose grip. The manuscript was spread across the coffee table and the T.V was blaring as coloured pictures flashed upon the screen.

Yoshiyuki: Why does this not surprise me?

Leaning over the back of the sofa, Yoshiyuki placed a delicate kiss upon Chiaki’s plush lips, removing them as the boy began to toss and his eyes fluttered open.

Chiaki: “T-tori?”

Yoshiyuki leaned down once again to kiss Chiaki, whose eyes began to widen and cheeks flushing red.

Chiaki: “Wh-what are you doing! You don’t attack someone who’s just woken up!”

Yoshiyuki: “How many pages do you have left?”

Chiaki: “Huh?

Yoshiyuki: “The manuscript, how many pages?”

Chiaki: “Oh, uhh…five.”

Yoshiyuki: “STILL!?”

Chiaki: “Ahh…umm, well you see…”

The boy began to shake as his head sank lower, backing further into the corner of the couch as Yoshiyuki walked around the side.

Chiaki: “W-when you hung up I suddenly felt hungry, so I made my way down to the corner store and grabbed myself some food and ate it on the way back.”

Yoshiyuki’s deadly stare intensified, and as he inched closer towards him, his shadow began to loom over Chiaki. Chiaki’s voice grew nervous, turning his head away to divert eye contact with the man before him.

Chiaki:
“And then I kinda became sleepy so I just rested my head on the pillow and I guess I fell asleep heh-heh-heh…”

Yoshiyuki: “You guess you fell asleep?! Chiaki!”

The boy slapped his hands together, squeezing his eyes shut tight as he began to apologise repeatedly.

Chiaki: “Sorry! I’m sorry! Forgive me please! I-I didn’t mean to!”

Chiaki peaked out through one eye, looking up at the towering man whose expression slowly lightened. He couldn’t stay mad at Chiaki forever, and it wasn’t the first time he had fallen asleep when he was suppose to be finishing up a project.

Yoshiyuki: *sigh* “It’s okay just…get it done now.”

As he turned around to head towards the kitchen, Chiaki heard the rustle of the grocery bags and immediately his stomach began to growl.

Chiaki: “Ah-ha-ha…Maybe I should eat first.”

Chiaki patted his stomach, realising how hungry he actually was as it gurgled again.

Yoshiyuki: “Not until you’re finished.”

The man sat the groceries upon the kitchen bench, reaching into the bags and pulling out the ingredients.

Chiaki: “What? No way! I don’t think I’ll be able to last that long!”

Yoshiyuki: “That was the deal. Get your work done and I’ll cook for you.”

Chiaki held his stomach, looking down at the sheets on his coffee table before him.

Chiaki: “But I’ve still got five pages to do! It’s going to be hours before I finish!”

Yoshiyuki: “Whose fault is that!? You’re the one who decided to sleep the day away. If you would have stayed awake, you’d probably be finished by now or close to it.”

Chiaki: “It’s impossible! I’m going to waste away before I can get this all done.”

The boy threw his head back into the cushioning sofa as his stomach continued to rumble. He felt something suddenly land on his chest and opened his eyes in reaction. In a neat plastic bag sat a rice ball wrapped in nori, rising and falling as he breathed in and out. He glanced up to see Yoshiyuki looking over him.

Yoshiyuki: “Hurry up and eat this then get your work done!”

Chiaki snatched the ball up, ripping it open and taking a giant bite of the fluffy snack. With his mouth still full he made out a mumbled ‘thank you’ as Yoshiyuki returned to the kitchen to start on dinner. Once finished, Chiaki dived into his work, sketching the correction Yoshiyuki made. In the kitchen he could hear Yoshiyuki chopping up vegetables and the smell of spices wafting through the apartment.

Yoshiyuki: “How many pages do you have left?”

Chiaki: “Two.”

Yoshiyuki: *sighs* “Honestly…”

A few more hours passed and Yoshiyuki was finishing up in the kitchen, dishing up a large assorted banquet he had created of Chiaki’s favourite meals. Knowing he had to tell Chiaki about the editor swap by the end of the night, he felt that it would go a lot smoother if he were in a good mood while enjoying his favourite meals.

Chiaki: “DONE!”

Yoshiyuki: “Really? Let me see.”

Chiaki passed the pages up above his head to Yoshiyuki who stood over him. The man held the pages up to his face, going over all the corrections Chiaki had made to the manuscript. His hand fell from the page and landed on top of Chiaki’s head, ruffling his hair between his fingers.

Yoshiyuki: “Good work!”

Chiaki: “He-he-he. It was nothing.”

The sound of Chiaki’s growling stomach echoed over his laughter, looking up at Yoshiyuki with the look of a starving puppy on his face.

Yoshiyuki: “I think it’s time to eat!

Chiaki sprang up from the sofa and dashed past Yoshiyuki, beating him to the table as he took a seat and stared at the large variety of dishes in front of him. He inhaled a deep whiff, his chest puffing up as his mouth began to water.

Chiaki: “Itadakimasu!”

Shoveling the rice into his mouth, Chiaki would pause to chew for a few seconds before taking another mouthful of something else. Yoshiyuki smiled, sitting across from the boy as he brought chopsticks to his mouth and took a bite of a piece of marinated meat. His smile soon disappeared, remembering he still had to tell Chiaki about the editor change. He was unsure how to bring the news to Chiaki; he ran a few scenarios in his head while taking another couple mouthfuls. He soon set his bowl down in front of him, taking in a deep breath to calm his nerves.

Yoshiyuki: “Chiaki, I need to tell you something…”

Chiaki: “Hmm?”

Chiaki looked up from his bowl, slowly chewing and swallowing before taking another mouthful of the fluffy rice. Yoshiyuki reached across, lowering the bowl from Chiaki’s face as he breathed out a sigh.

Yoshiyuki: “Chiaki, this is important and I need you to listen to me.”

Chiaki: “Huh? What’s wrong?”

Yoshiyuki: “Nothings wrong, it’s just…”

Chiaki cocked his head to the side like a dog as bits of the sticky rice fell from his face and back into the steaming bowl.

Yoshiyuki: “Uhh well you see…I’m going to have to stop being your editor.”

Chiaki’s eyes widened, asking Yoshiyuki to repeat what he had just said, wondering if he heard correctly.

Chiaki: “B-but why!?”

Yoshiyuki: “It’s obvious that you’ve been slacking off and handing in your work late every time.”

Chiaki: “I can’t help that. I get distracted and my mind wonders when I lose interest.”

Yoshiyuki: “This is work Chiaki. You can’t just stop and start whenever you want to. You already have the luxury of being able to work from home but you still work for a company and it’s important to hand your manuscripts in on time.”

Chiaki: “Alright alright! I’ll hand in my work to you on time for the next project.”

Yoshiyuki sighed, realising Chiaki wasn’t taking it seriously at all as he went back to finishing his meal.

Yoshiyuki: “Next project, you’ll have a new editor.”

Chiaki set down his bowl as his hands began to tighten around his chopsticks into fists.

Chiaki: “Hey, this isn’t funny! Stop joking around! You’ve been my editor for years! You can’t just stop!”

Yoshiyuki: “It’s not up to you and this isn’t negotiable. It’s already been decided.”

Yoshiyuki stood up from the table thinking it would be best to leave before Chiaki grew more agitated, but Chiaki slammed his hand down on the table, gripping it tightly as he shot up from his seat.

Chiaki: “No! I refuse to have any other editor but you!”

Yoshiyuki sighed, leaving the room as he headed towards the door.

Yoshiyuki: “Like I said, it’s not up to you.”

Chiaki followed close behind, marching after the man with heavy footsteps.

Chiaki: “Then I’ll quit!”

Yoshiyuki stopped dead in his footsteps, spinning around to turn to Chiaki.

Yoshiyuki: “IDIOT! Don’t throw your career away just because your editor is changing! You’re acting like a child!”

Chiaki paused for a moment as Yoshiyuki’s words stuck in his mind. His fists clenched and face grew red.

Chiaki: “FINE! LEAVE! I DON’T CARE!”

Yoshiyuki left the room he was in and as he walked down the hallway towards the front door; Chiaki beginning to lose the hearing of his footstep as the sound became fainter. The conversation he just had left Chiaki in a fit of rage as he paced back and forth within the living room, but abruptly stopped as he heard the front door creak open. Yoshiyuki stood in the doorway for a moment, hesitating to leave since they left off on a bad note. He shook his head as he walked through the door, shutting it behind him. Chiaki sighed hearing the door click shut, feeling calmer that he had left.

Chiaki: I don’t understand! Tori’s been my editor ever since I debuted to Emerald and now he’s deciding he doesn’t want to work with me anymore? That idiot! He won’t even tell me the reason behind his decision.

Dragging his feet back to the dining table, Chiaki picked up a sweet egg roll, bringing it up to his mouth. The smell of the sweetness brought over a sudden feeling of queasiness, putting Chiaki off his meal. He placed the egg back onto the plate. A violent vibrating began to buzz from within his pocket, agitating Chiaki further. He dove his hand into his pocket, pulling out the device to silence it. A new message flashed up on the screen from Yoshiyuki.

Y- Come into the office tomorrow morning so we can discuss business about your new editor.

Squeezing his phone in his hand tightly, Chiaki’s eyebrows furrowed even further. He was pissed off as it was and this message didn’t do any favours. He pressed the off button on the top of the phone as hard as he could and shoved it back into his pocket, not bothering to reply. He looked down at the table, and once again the sight of the food brought on a feeling of sickness. He turned his back on the meal Yoshiyuki had specially prepared for him and entered his bedroom. Chiaki collapsed onto his king size bed, not worried that he was still wearing the same clothes he had worn all day. Slipping in under the thin sheets he snuggled up to his pillow but…it just didn’t feel right. Tossing and turning about for the rest of the night, Chiaki got very little sleep. Upon sunrise he made his way into the kitchen, noticing the food still sitting on the table untouched. His conversation with Yoshiyuki from the previous night flashed back into his thoughts, and the same queasy feeling came back. He scraped the food into the bin, placing the plates into his dishwasher. As he looked up at the wall clock, he could see it was already passed 10’oclock.

Chiaki: “I should probably head off to the office now.”
